Leno in, Rosicky Out?
The transfer rumour mill is already turning and Manchester United’s early capture of Memphis Depay has only intensified the expectation for other clubs to do their business sooner rather than later.
For a club with the frugal history of Arsenal we tend to get linked with a disproportionate amount of players. Just today we have been linked with Ayew, Dybala (again), Llorente and Leno.
Dybala is an incredible talent but the rest I am feeling a little ‘meh’ about.
Arsène Wenger will once again have a significant transfer fund to dip into and will welcome the £3m bonus from Vermaelen’s sale to Barcelona if the Catalans win the Champions League final.
A name we have been linked with quite heavily recently is Petr Cech and whilst he would be a fantastic addition to the squad I cannot see Mourinho selling him to Arsenal. Mourinho has blocked sales to Arsenal before because he fears handing weapons to Wenger.
Taking a player from Mourinho and using him to help win the league would be almost as sweet as a bonus for Tiki Island game.
He seems an unlikely capture though and the papers are saying Wenger has turned his attention to Bernd Leno. I cannot pretend to know anything about him but German Gooners on Twitter say he is the business.
I don’t think we have room for sentiment when we’ve just fallen short of winning the league for two years in a row and it has been over a decade since out last title. If we can do better than Szczesny and Ospina then we should go for it and Leno supposedly has a £13m buy out clause which is a decent price for a quality keeper.
A sadder note coming from the rumour mill is that Rosicky will leave this summer when his contract expires.
I cannot express how rubbish this news is to me. I love Rosicky. I can think of no greater sight than seeing Little Mozart conducting a beautiful play.
We have been lucky to have him in the side but unlucky not to have benefited from him being fit. His time at Arsenal has been bittersweet as he lost so many years to injury but is responsible for so many wonderful moments.
You cannot help but smile when he plays and I hope he does well wherever he goes next.
