Goals galore and clean sheets no more now that Pepe’s at the door?

No one can deny that this has been a decent summer for Arsenal. At one point it looked like we wouldn’t get any business done and now we’ve got Dani Ceballos on loan and Nicolas Pepe in the bag with potentially Kieran Tierney to follow.

The loan signing of Ceballos from Real Madrid to replace Aaron Ramsey is good business and you have to hope that there is a reasonable permanent transfer clause in there.

As exciting a prospect as Ceballos is with his ability to drift into dangerous areas and eye for a pass, the signing that has Arsenal fans celebrating and the rest of the league sitting up and taking notice is Nicolas Pepe.

Last season’s second-highest scorer in Ligue 1 comes to the Gunners with a hefty price tag of £72m albeit most of that is in clauses and spread out over a few years.

Widely regarded as one of the best wingers in the world, Pepe brings the speed and directness in wide areas that Emery has been trying to find since he joined the club. It is clear that Emery’s preferred formation includes a natural winger and in Pepe he has found a top class one.

Naturally, Arsenal fans are excited to see the new boys in action and are wondering how Emery will accommodate all of his best players – which is a headache that Arsenal supporters are not accustomed to their manager having!

Emery could choose to keep playing Aubameyang wide on the left with Pepe on the right, cutting in on his left foot. With Lacazette leading the line and Ceballos playing in the hole behind him, Arsenal could easily possess the most dangerous attack in the league.

If the manager gives them free reign to attack, without the shackles of defensive duties we could be looking at Arsenal being one of the most entertaining teams in the league again – but will it be for the right reasons?

There are goals aplenty in Aubameyang, Pepe and Lacazette but enough to ensure any gaps in the defence are offset? We’ll see soon but with the quality of player we have now it’s not soon enough.
