How charity events can help Arsenal win over more fans
When it comes to the impact that a group can have on the world, Arsenal has aimed to prove that their contribution doesn’t end at the stadium. Pursuing the goal of making a positive impact on their community, Arsenal partners with numerous charitable organizations, and Arsenal fans take up the same torch as they prove what makes Arsenal different.
Save the Children
Arsenal has been partnered with the charity Save the Children for many years and has raised over a million dollars for this organization, which works to get medical attention, food, water and shelter for children affected by crisis, and continues to support them and rebuild their lives and families. The Save the Children fund has used funds raised by Arsenal and others to aid children in over 120 countries, including the Philippines, Syria, Sierra Leone and Nepal.
Grassroot Soccer
Another of the charities that Arsenal supports combines education with football, to improve lives by working together with coaches and teachers to educate African children. Grassroot Soccer educated hundreds of children in Zimbabwe, which has been devastated by the HIV and AIDS epidemic, to learn about prevention of HIV as well as coach them in football and life skills. They watched an Arsenal match and received motivational messages from Arsenal players when the camp was complete. The camps were made possible thanks to charitable donations from Arsenal fans.
Be a Gunner. Be a Runner
Money can be raised for the Arsenal Foundation and its many charitable partners in a variety of ways, but one of the most enjoyable is the “Be a Gunner. Be a Runner” event, which takes place at Emirates Stadium. Participants of all ages are welcome to take part in the event, which promotes fun and fitness, while the entry fee charged for participants goes toward the Arsenal Foundation. Adults can be sponsored in the event to donate toward the charities with which Arsenal partners.
Charitable role models
If Arsenal fans need someone to look toward as an example of Arsenal making a positive impact, they need look no further than Arsenal’s own Mesut Ozil. Ozil has been presented with the Laureus Sport for Good award, in recognition of his donations to charity. The prize money for that award was then used to provide 23 seriously ill children with surgery that they desperately needed.
Jennifer Atiku
Several charitable organizations exist to promote education about, and prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS in Africa. A self-made woman, Jennifer Atiku was called to the bar recently. Atiku created the Gede Foundation, which promotes treatment and prevention of HIV and seeks to reduce the stigma of the disease, to improve the lives of those afflicted.
Fans of Arsenal know what makes Arsenal special, and while football is indeed part of that, their character and contributions to the community also play a part. Arsenal fans can be part of the community that seeks to make a change in the world and support their favourite team through charitable events and donations.
