Exactly one year ago today I relaunched my blog North London Is Red on this URL so despite having blogged for a while before that I guess you can say today is NLIR’s birthday.

Launching my new site last year was a piece about finishing 3rd and I had hoped that a year on we wouldn’t be in the same position but with the sale of a certain Dutchman and 80% of our attackers new to both the league and the club, I don’t think we realistically could have done more although we probably should have done better in the cups.

I have been impressed with how Arsenal have coped with losing their “stars” and the man from the “one man team” tag. We’re not where we want to be but as a team we have improved even if as a squad our quality has dropped. We may have lost the best looking parts of the house but we’ve relaid our foundations and they’re ready to be built on. Maybe in the past we’ve been misguided and tried to build on shaky foundations but we’ve lost all that we can lose really so anyone new will either take the place of someone no longer in the clubs plans or will be for strength. Either way it’s a good thing.

NLIR has seen phenomenal growth in the past year from what used to be the dizzying heights of a few hundred visitors a month to over half a million in the past 365 days! The site gets so crazy sometimes with visitors you crash the server and no matter how much I improve it you manage to crash it again somehow which despite being a pain to sort out I am truly, truly grateful for 🙂

I love each and every one of you for taking the time to read my ramblings and I am truly humbled by the success of the site. I don’t know if it’s the name, the writing, the guests or a mixture of it all but I’m glad you keep coming back.

So, as a little way to say thank you to all of my readers and my twitter and facebook followers I’d like to give you a “Happy Birthday NLIR” present.

I have teamed up with the awesome people at Net Voucher Codes  and am giving you the chance to win a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor VII CR7 FG Mens Football Boots.

Yours to win

Yours to win

All you need to do is answer the following questions correctly.

  1. How many players in the Premier League era have worn the no.10 shirt for Arsenal?
  2. What was Anelka’s first shirt number with Arsenal?
  3. How many FA Cup finals have Arsenal been in?

You can send in your answers on the comments section, on our Facebook page or send me a tweet using the hashtag #NLIRBoots.

A winner will be drawn at random on May 24th.

And to finish off this birthday piece I want to take the time to thank a few people for helping this site grow and become what it is today.

I’d like to thank my earliest supporters and those who shared, RTd and shouted out my blog at a time when I was struggling to attract 10 readers a post:

Early followers who have stuck with me:

Please give them all a follow if you are a twitter user.

Don’t forget to enter the competition for the boots! Once the winner is drawn on the 24th of May we’ll be in touch to arrange delivery and hopefully post a few pictures on twitter of the lucky winner with their boots.

    Happy birthday!

Why we keep coming back? For myself, its the quality of the writing and topics on discussion and objective/positive outlook. Like to ‘Gangsters Paradise’ song you did a while back. Quality!

The name is pretty good as well.

Thanks for all your hard work.
