Arsenal paid around £50million for the services of Alexandre Lacazette this summer and plenty is expected from the powerful frontman. Can he prove prolific during his first season in the Premier League?

The Gunners paid a club record fee to Lyon this summer during an uncharacteristic splurge by the North London side. Fans have become frustrated by striker Olivier Giroud so they were visibly delighted when the capture of the 26-year-old was confirmed earlier this summer. The two strikers have played together in the French national side and appear to have a good understanding with Giroud praising his fellow countryman for his qualities in front of goal.

Giroud spent the majority of last season on the bench as Arsene Wenger opted to use the 30-year-old as an impact substitute throughout the course of the campaign. He has been linked with a move to Marseille and Everton but appears to wish to remain at the North London club for now.

The new recruit struck the woodwork in the Gunners’ penalty victory over Chelsea to clinch the Community Shield at the beginning of August and will surely see plenty more chances come his way in the early part of the campaign. Linking up with Aaron Ramsey, Mezut Ozil and potentially Danny Welbeck should help create regular opportunities for the forward who was prolific in Ligue 1 last season.

The powerful striker has hit totals of 27, 21 and 28 during his last three seasons with Lyon and he is aiming for similar tallies in the Premier League. He also tends to start the new season strongly having notched six times in the last four opening weekends in Ligue 1. He is clinical in front of goal but is also willing to stretch the opposition defence if necessary.

Spurs’ Harry Kane wrapped up last season’s golden boot but a number of pundits are tipping Lacazette to lay down a significant challenge for the award this time around but the Frenchman may need a few weeks to adjust to the rigours of the English top flight and there is a possibility he may need to slightly tweak his off the ball movement.

The 26-year-old has been priced up as 5th favourite in the Premier League betting markets to finish as the league’s top goalscorer. He can be backed at around 12/1 with teammate Olivier Giroud available at a significantly larger 40/1. Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club may be in doubt but the talented Chilean can also be backed at around 14/1.

Lacazette will be hoping to get off to a bright start in this season’s Premier League as he aims to fire Arsenal back into the top four after the Gunners missed out on the Champions League spots last season. The North London club are likely to create plenty of opportunities for their new frontman and he’ll hopefully be able to fill his boots. He displayed excellent movement in the Community Shield and showed that he isn’t fazed by Premier League defences and it should lead to a productive campaign at the Emirates in which he should be able to fire at least 20 goals in his debut season.
