The Final Piece Of The Puzzle

There’s often a groan of frustration amongst Gunners fans whenever Arsenal and the transfer window are uttered in the same sentence. And whilst in recent years that has improved with the signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, there’s something still not quite right when it comes to the strength and depth of Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Recent reports are suggesting the Frenchman is sitting on a £42million cash kitty available to spend in January, which could be the final piece of the jigsaw in a team rich in talent.

And he’ll need to spend it. It’s no secret the club are in need of defensive midfield support and a 20-goal-a-season striker to bolster their squad and give them more chance of further silverware after ending their nine year drought picking up the FA Cup last season.

Names have been thrown around regularly with the likes of Julian Draxler and Gonzalo Higuaín linked to the Emirates almost weekly.

But when you’re as desperate as Arsenal for a little firepower, it’s hardly surprising. The side were poor against Anderlecht on Wednesday night, scraping a win with two last gasp goals in Brussels from Lukas Podolski and the most unlikely of sources, Kieran Gibbs.

That leaves them in a great position to qualify, but with a Champions League showdown with the likes of Bayern Munich, PSG, or Real Madrid on the cards in the next round the head-to-head stats don’t quite compare.

Whoever they face in the next round, should they qualify, will have what the Gunners currently lack – firepower.

Welbeck has had a good start to his career with the Gunners, whilst Higuaín would more than solve that problem. He’s already got off to a good start for Napoli with three goals and four assists so far this season, but with the Blues in a precarious financial position a move to the Premier League in January could well be on the cards.

Wenger will have Liverpool to contend with following Balotelli’s difficult start at the club. However, whilst he’ll certainly boost their chances in the Premier League, the man will be cup-tied after already competing in Rafa Benitez’s Europa League campaign, meaning the alternative could be a little closer to home.

Two hundred miles to the west to be precise. Wilfried Bony has impressed hugely since joining the Premier League and would be a great signing for the club, particularly as he’d be eligible for the Second Round of the Champions League.

In midfield it’s a similar story. Draxler would of course be a welcome addition to the squad, but in the centre of the park a top quality defensive midfielder would strengthen the side considerably. Sami Khedira is the obvious choice, teaming back up with fellow countryman Mesut Ozil, and will complete a top quality squad with the chance of picking up silverware for the second time in successive years.

No business for wenger in January. He has a good squad. wenger is too old to see the reality.

I believeSir Arsene Wenger is getting his tactics right, accept 4 the fact that he is using his old methods which dose’nt seems to work for him, well if u ask me i would say his methods make sense especially his tic-tac method which I consider the best for a team , according to arsenal situation, I bet Sir Arsene Wenger needs to apply THE NEW METHOD to his old method to improvise his method, which I call THE EXTRAORDINARY METHOD, one of the i discovered it could be is scouting for clever ,smart and agile

You forget to mention that we are woefully short in defence. A definite priority over another forward. We have 6 defenders to cover 4 positions. 7 if you count bellerin. But the fact that wenger chooses to play monreal at centre half lately shows that he is reluctant to play him and chambers at the same time in the more important games. So we need another experienced centre half before another striker.

I agree, Dave. More defensive players should be our top priority and for what it is worth I think Welbeck could be that 20 goal a season striker. We have goals running throughout this team but things aren’t clicking for us at the moment but when they do we have a team with at least 100 goals in them (in all competitions). Welbeck, Sanchez and Walcott can easily get 20 each (all comps), Ramsey has 15 in him, Giroud 10-15 (more if he was fit for the whole season), Wilshere, Özil, Ox and Cazorla have 5-10 each in them and then Podolski, Campbell and Rosicky probably have 10 between them (based on playing time). That’s 115+ goals right there. We’ve not been at the races recently but once we get going the only thing that will let us down is our lack of defenders. January is only 10 weeks away, we best hope we get someone in early.
