I’m not quite old enough to properly remember David Rocastle in his pomp having only really switched on to his last two seasons at Arsenal. He was injured for most of the title winning season and despite featuring in almost every game the season after he was sold by George Graham to Leeds signalling the start of the lasting memory of dour football under George.

Rocastle could never mean to me what he meant to those who witnessed his talent, passion and determination first hand but what I have learned of the man in the years post and preceding his untimely passing thanks to the expansion of the internet and invention of websites like YouTube has allowed me to fully appreciate his brilliance, humility and generosity of spirit.

I cannot wax about the man as those who watched him dazzle for Arsenal week in week out but I hope this video can say a little something of what I have not been privileged enough to experience.

Thank you to AFCGuildford who made this wonderfully emotive video.
