Yes, it can! Tasteful sports design in the home is not only possible, with a little planning and by choosing the right colours and items you can create a stunning room that allows you to proudly display your team’s colours while still looking really smart. The key is matching and combining the right accessories, colours and pieces of furniture.

For Arsenal fans, this is really much easier than you may think. Using Arsenal’s colours of red and white is the best approach, although if you wish to match the away strip then you can combine yellow and blue; although as you know, the away kit may change again next year.

How you design your home is dependent on who you are designing for. For children’s bedrooms it is simple; you use the key colours of red and white on the walls, curtains and bedding, and the rest of the room decoration is usually posters and photos chosen by your child. A football lampshade finishes the room off nicely. For ease, choose to paint the walls red instead of using wallpaper; also, wallpaper never lasts long in a child’s room.

For the family living spaces or adult dens, you can be more ambitious with your colour schemes. Red and white are excellent colours to work with and you can create a really vibrant room that will look stunning both to other Arsenal fans and to non-fans alike.

You can create a classic red and white themed living room in two ways. The first is to use white as the main background colour, so you have white walls and floors, and use red on the curtains, sofas, chairs and cushions. The other, which makes a more bold statement, is to decorate the walls red, and use white curtains and a white sofa with red cushions.

The easiest items to work with are the walls, curtains and sofas, because of the wide range of colours that are available. You can buy sofas in a variety of colours these days so that you can sit with your friends on your three seater sofas and enjoy the big match in your tasteful Arsenal-themed lounge. A sofa in a “Luxor Cranberry” fabric exudes a sense of charisma and luxury while fitting in perfectly with your themed room. Accessorise the sofa with white cushions and complement it with a velvety cream rug.

As for the rest of the furnishings, it is always easier to work with white than red, which is another reason to go with the red walls. White, shabby chic pieces are all the fashion at the moment and if you can find a regency cabinet with a shabby chic finish, it will look stunning alongside your sofa.

For the adult bedroom, it is still possible to incorporate a Gunners theme without looking tacky. A classic, wrought iron bed painted in white looks amazing with a rich, red bedspread and matching curtains. Seductive, deep red wallpaper is perfect for a romantic bedroom with a football twist. Arsenal fans really are very lucky with their team’s choice of colours.

All rooms can be accessorised with red and white lamps, clocks, picture frames and mirrors. You can also incorporate some Arsenal merchandise into the interior design, such as an Arsenal alarm clock or an official fleece blanket.

Fly your colours with pride and give your home a makeover that will be the envy of your friends.
