Could Diaby Make An Appearance Vs Norwich?
It’s almost the end of the season and Arsenal are confirmed for the Champions League (qualifiers) for a 17th straight season. In and of itself that is a remarkable achievement but having spent 128 days at the top of the league if feels like a bit of a let down to finish fourth again.
However, Arsenal aren’t just finishing fourth again, they have a cup final to look forward to. Should Arsenal win the cup they will finally have a “successful” season to build upon.
Depending on results Arsenal could end up finishing between 4 and 7 points off the eventual winners (which really should be Manchester City) and whilst fourth is still fourth, 7 points or less off top is a vast improvement on our 16+ point off the top finishes of recent years.
It makes you wonder what could have been if only Arsenal had kept important players fit. There is an argument for a new striker as well but even without one Arsenal surely would have stayed in with a chance until the final day if Theo, Ramsey, Özil and Wilshere had all stayed fit. With a fit squad next season and a few choice additions Arsenal should go all of the way. Arsenal are still be slightly treated as nonthreatening opposition to the oil clubs so you could take advantage and still an early flutter on Arsenal to win next season for free with LatestFreeBet.com. With a fit squad, money to spend and City being hit with fines and sanctions by UEFA the odds are only going to shorten.
Aside from the forenamed players that we missed there’s often a forgotten man who could have made a difference this season and might just make an appearance on the final day.
Diaby is a player that causes more internal conflict than any other. We all know how talented he is but we all also know how fragile he can be and wonder why we persevere with him.
When Ramsey got injured attention shifted from the glaring hole he left and those unable to fill it onto Olivier Giroud who bore the brunt of the discord for his perceived lack of ability. Since returning to the team Ramsey has elevated Giroud’s game once again and Giroud is making different runs because he knows the support is there.
In Diaby we have a player who could have successfully filled the hole Ramsey left where Wilshere, Flamini, Rosicky and, to an extent, The Ox who played one very good box to box role against Palace.
Diaby, when fit and on form, is one of the most penetrative midfielders in Europe. Almost impossible to shift off the ball and elegant in his movements forward with the ball at his feet, Diaby can cause all sorts of problems.
Most people would like to see him finally put his injury issues behind him and make a real contribution to the Arsenal team – aside from keeping the medical staff employed. After missing most of the year it was great to see him on the bench against West Brom and hopefully he can an appearance against Norwich.
If he comes through the Norwich game unscathed and Ramsey is still not back from his niggle would you start Diaby against Hull in the cup final?
