Arsenal needed new talent, and manager Unai Emery has wasted no time in providing it. He has brought a total of five players to the team during this summer’s transfer window, and the influx of talent might not stop there. Emery has said that he is satisfied with the Arsenal squad going into the Premier League season but that he is not ruling out adding another player to the roster before the transfer window closes.

Emery has already brought in:

  • New goalkeeper Bernd Leno, though Emery is unsure whether he will replace Petr Cech as the number one choice
  • Defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, free from Juventus
  • Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Dortmund
  • Midfielder Lucas Torreira, a strong Uruguayan player who showed talent at the World Cup
  • Midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, a Frenchman who plays international for the under-21s

Emery says, ‘I am very happy with how the club is working’, but also mentions that if there is an opportunity to sign one major player, then Arsenal are still looking. It’s a hint that it might not be over yet for Arsenal’s transfers this summer. With a new manager and new players, this is a more decisive Arsenal that could have a shot to make more impact this season.

Will Leon Bailey be next?

If there was to be a sixth transfer this summer, rumours have suggested that Arsenal will be looking for a new right winger. They need a left winger who can match the quality of Mkhitaryan, who himself had an impressive start for the Gunners last year. They need an extra attacking force to make up for the loss of Walcott, Giroud and Sanchez.

The attacking left winger that Arsenal need could be found in Leon Bailey, the Leverkusen player who has shown that he is more than capable of stepping up to the mark and playing at the highest level. He would be next, and according to stories published in tabloid newspapers like The Sun, Emery will soon hold talks with Leverkusen.

Linked to a Premier League move for a while, Bailey says that it would be a dream to play in teams of that stature. Predictions for football transfers made earlier in the year pointed towards a move to Chelsea, and indeed, Chelsea have also allegedly shown interest in Bailey. He would make a useful addition to their team given that Willian is now nearly 30, and Pedro 31.

Both clubs scouted Bailey when he was at Genk but missed out on the transfer opportunity. Is now the time? Bayern 04 Leverkusen are apparently looking for around £40 million for Bailey to make the move.

The Transfer Window Closes Early This Year

The transfer window will close early this year. Clubs voted for the market to shut before the season starts, and so the final date will be 9th August. If Arsenal are to get one more player this season, we will find out before then!

Currently, Arsenal are in Singapore playing out their preseason friendlies. Their Premier League campaign starts on 12th August at 4 p.m. when they play the current champions Manchester City at home. It will be the start of the real test for Emery, and for the new arrivals to make their mark.
